Urban contemporary residence
Urban Zen
Vertical urban living softened by timber, daylight, and restraint.
DesignThe idea
A high-end urban home defined by material contrast, verticality, transparency, and calm interiors.
The façade stacks crisp volumes around a tall glazed center. Inside, timber and soft neutral materials temper the concrete and metal language of the exterior.

The site
Conditions and constraints.
- Narrow urban footprint with limited side setbacks.
- Bringing daylight deep into internal zones.
- Privacy between close neighboring properties.
Design response
Key architectural moves
- 01
Tall glazing draws daylight deep into a narrow urban footprint.
- 02
Projecting balconies and recesses create shade and depth.
- 03
Warm timber cladding softens concrete and dark metal frames.
- 04
Interior spaces remain visually open without losing zones for privacy and rest.
Constructability
The building problem behind the design.
Vertical construction on a tight urban lot puts the emphasis on staging, crane or hoisting strategy, and party-wall coordination. Structural framing for the projecting balconies and the tall glazed slot will be detailed with the engineer before permits.
